Product description

Vallejo Squidmar Color Tetanus Orange 74212 is acrylic paint for miniatures and scale models, supplied in an 18ml. bottle. Use its red orange hue for warm red transitions and flame details.

This paint belongs to the 48 acrylic colours in Squidmar Color. Vallejo developed the range with Emil Nyström and Lukas Holmström of Squidmar Miniatures. The aim is a focused palette in which the colours complement one another. Its acrylic paints support solid base coats, shadows, highlights, gradients and glazes. This gives you a consistent starting point for painting several different materials and features on the same miniature.

How do you use this miniature paint? Shake the bottle thoroughly and dispense a small amount onto your palette. Start with a test area on a primed miniature. Adjust dilution to suit the technique and build the colour through controlled thin coats rather than a single thick application. Allow each coat to dry before continuing. This helps preserve sculpted detail while giving you time to judge the developing colour.

To make a smooth transition, mix an intermediate colour on your palette first. Place it between your base colour and the lighter or darker shade. Reduce the area covered by each successive layer. The principle works on faces, buckles and cloaks, although the size of the steps will differ. Occasionally view the miniature from farther away to check that the overall shape still reads clearly.

Use the hue to build a warm clothing accent or a painted fire effect. For fabric, follow the folds and keep the darkest areas small enough for the colour to remain recognisable. For flames, establish the bright centre first and develop the warmer surrounding area around it. That different distribution of light calls for a different approach from ordinary illuminated clothing.

If you want to shift the hue, make a small test mix before painting the model. Add the second colour gradually and watch how brightness and colour temperature change. Record useful proportions when painting several figures in a matching scheme. The range is designed around coherent mixing relationships, while the final ratio remains a creative choice shaped by your subject, undercoat and intended level of contrast.

A glaze is a thin, transparent layer used to adjust a transition or the colour impression of a surface. Load only a little paint onto the brush and spread it without leaving pools. Develop the effect gradually. For crisp edge accents, use a controlled brush tip and less dilution instead. The same colour can serve both techniques, even though each plays a different role in the finished miniature.

This paint suits beginners learning base coats and highlights, as well as experienced painters planning a more deliberate palette. Wargaming miniatures, role-playing characters and display figures all offer opportunities to use it. A well-chosen colour on a small detail can attract more attention than many competing colours across an entire model. Decide where you want the strongest contrast before starting the main painting stages.

A possible palette pairs this colour with Squidmar Color Squid Orange 74211 and Squidmar Color Deadliest Red 74213. Place the three hues beside each other on your palette and decide which role Tetanus Orange should play in your project. Make small intermediate mixes so you can compare the steps. This is a painting suggestion, with the final proportions left to your own judgement. Preserve distinct dark areas and bright accents when developing a strong contrast scheme.

When painting several figures, start with one test model and develop warm red transitions and flame details before repeating the method. Record where you use Tetanus Orange directly and where you choose a mixture or transparent layer instead. Compare the result under consistent lighting. For a display figure, spend additional time refining the transitions and reduce the brightest accents to the points that best explain the sculpted form.

Use a suitable auxiliary product when adjusting dilution or exploring a different effect, and test the combination first. Follow the instructions on the product label. Keep your palette and brush in good condition so that dried paint and previous mixing colours do not alter the result unexpectedly. Judge a new layer after it has dried and work gradually towards the contrast that suits your miniature and painting style.
