Vallejo Squidmar Color Fluorescent Ghost 74259 is fluorescent paint for miniatures and scale models, supplied in an 18ml. bottle. Use its fluorescent turquoise hue for ghostly effects and turquoise energy.
This paint is one of the five fluorescent colours in Squidmar Color. Vallejo developed the range with Emil Nyström and Lukas Holmström for striking miniature colour accents and effects. The fluorescent paints are intended for magical details, energy, weapons, markings and other focal points. You can apply them directly, add them to mixes, or use thin glazes to increase the vibrancy of an existing painted colour.
How do you use fluorescent miniature paint? Shake the bottle thoroughly and test the hue on a primed sample. A light painted base is a useful starting point when aiming for a bright effect. Build the fluorescent colour through thin coats. Let each coat dry and compare the result with the surrounding parts of the miniature. The distribution of light and dark determines how strongly the effect stands out.
For a painted lighting effect, decide where the light source sits before adding surrounding colour. Keep its centre small and bright, then develop the coloured influence gradually around it. Apply colour to nearby edges or surfaces facing the source. A large bright patch tells less about the direction of light than a few carefully placed accents. Also examine the model from the intended viewing direction.
For a ghostly effect, build the hue over a light painted shape and preserve brighter areas within it. Use softer transitions on broad forms and sharper accents at selected focal points. On a turquoise energy weapon, place the same hue in deliberate bands. Compare the accent with the rest of the character so that the cool colour emphasises the intended feature.
OSL means object source lighting: you paint the impression that one part casts light onto its surroundings. Use transparent layers to develop a colour tint on neighbouring surfaces. Test dilution first and avoid leaving pools in seams. Restrict the effect to areas you deliberately want to illuminate. A quieter surrounding scheme lets the central accent attract attention without turning every nearby detail into the same colour.
The paint can also provide smaller accents, such as a marking or a single striking detail on a character. This is a useful way to practise before painting an extensive lighting effect. Across several miniatures, keep the position and size of the accent consistent if you want a recognisable army style. For an individual character, give one feature extra emphasis to direct attention towards the face or weapon.
Beginners can explore how a light undercoat and gradual layering influence the result. Experienced painters can use the colour for transparent enrichment, controlled glow effects and fantasy painting. Fluorescent paint is not a promise that the finished miniature will glow in darkness. Its appearance depends on the layers you apply, the surrounding contrast and the conditions under which you view the painted model.
A possible palette pairs this colour with Squidmar Color Ocean Eyes 74224 and Squidmar Color Snow Storm 74221. Place the three hues beside each other on your palette and decide which role Fluorescent Ghost should play in your project. Make small intermediate mixes so you can compare the steps. This is a painting suggestion, with the final proportions left to your own judgement. Preserve distinct dark areas and bright accents when developing a strong contrast scheme.
When painting several figures, start with one test model and develop ghostly effects and turquoise energy before repeating the method. Record where you use Fluorescent Ghost directly and where you choose a mixture or transparent layer instead. Compare the result under consistent lighting. For a display figure, spend additional time refining the transitions and reduce the brightest accents to the points that best explain the sculpted form.
Use a suitable auxiliary product when adjusting dilution or exploring a different effect, and test the combination first. Follow the instructions on the product label. Keep your palette and brush in good condition so that dried paint and previous mixing colours do not alter the result unexpectedly. Judge a new layer after it has dried and work gradually towards the contrast that suits your miniature and painting style.
