What are Vallejo Pigments?
Vallejo Pigments consist of a selection of natural earth pigments and synthetic pigments. These pigments are known for being very durable. The extra fine pigment particles make it a relatively easy product to work with.
In addition, the pigments provide a very faithful reproduction of the natural colors and excellent lightfastness.
What are Vallejo Pigments used for?
The Vallejo Pigments are often used for specific applications. The pigments are used to mimic the following:
- Aging and weathering of, for example, military vehicles, ships, weapons and buildings.
- Natural erosion.
- Accumulated dirt, mud or dust.
- Structures of cars, planes, tanks, etc.
- Damage or wear from use.
A Vallejo Pigment Set comes with 4 colors that complement each other in creating a specific effect.
How are Vallejo Pigments applied?
The Vallejo Pigments can be applied directly in dry form. But you can also use a Vallejo Thinner or Binder.
The Thinner is used to simulate the effect of dry mud or dust. The binder makes the mixture a bit thicker, so that the accumulation of mud or rust can be simulated well. The pigments can also be mixed with water, varnishes or acrylic.
Using Vallejo Matt medium or Vallejo Pigment Binder ensures better adhesion. Please note that when using the Pigment Binder, the pigment dries more slowly. On the other hand, you do have more control when applying the Vallejo Pigments.
