What types of paint are there for me as a modeller?
Acrylic paint
This paint is made with water in the base and is therefore the least aggressive type of paint. You can use brushes with natural bristles such as Kolinsky sable hair and Pig bristles for this type of paint, as well as synthetic brushes. You can also use them from different brands together, as long as it always happens with the same type of paint. For example, you can use the acrylic paints from Vallejo , AK interactive , The Army Painter and Scale75 together without any problems.
Oil paint
As the name suggests, this paint is made on the basis of oil and therefore also has a caring function, especially for brushes with natural bristles, because they remain nice and supple. However, synthetic brushes are also increasingly suitable for oil paints. You cannot mix oil paints with, for example, acrylic paint or enamel paint. What you can do is, for example, first lay the base with acrylic paint, then varnish it with a matte varnish and apply the weathering with oil paint over it. (The paint layers must then be well cured). Oil paint from Abteilung 502 is often used for this type of weathering.
enamel paint
Enamel paints are mainly made on the basis of alcohol and white spirit . These are the mostly older paint systems and require more maintenance on your brushes and are also much more aggressive. It is therefore less wise to use more expensive brushes for this. Many weathering products from, for example, AK interactive are made of this.
